Cobham Limited appoints Martin Clements CMG OBE as a Non-Executive Director
Cobham Limited, a leading technology and services innovator, announces the appointment of Martin Clements CMG OBE as a Non-Executive Director.
Martin spent more than 30 years at the United Kingdom Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), holding the position of Director General Technology and Transformation at the time of his retirement in 2016. During his time at the FCO, Martin held a number of senior leadership roles which focussed on developing and embedding new technologies into the most sensitive areas of National Security. These roles demanded close international cooperation and coordination, in particular with defence and National Security partners in the United States.
Martin began his career as a soldier in the British Army before studying computer and natural sciences. Following his retirement from the FCO in 2016, Martin has served on various boards and as an adviser to a number of businesses, predominantly in the technology field. Martin currently advises the Chairman and CEO of Credit Suisse AG on cyber security, and sits on the Group Board’s Innovation and Technology Committee.
Martin follows a number of other senior defence industry appointments at Cobham group companies in recent months, including the 27th United States Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper, who joined the Board of CAES in June 2021.
Commenting on the announcement Shonnel Malani, Chairman of Cobham Limited, said: “Martin’s distinguished career at the heart of UK National Security, together with his portfolio of roles in the private sector, make him a natural choice for the Cobham Board. I look forward to benefiting from his insights into the leadership of technology programmes in the Five Eyes community, as well as from his direct experience of how these technologies protect national security interests”.
Martin Clements also commented: “I am delighted to be appointed to the Board of Cobham, where a complementary perspective developed within the UK National Security sector will I believe add usefully to the talent already there, especially as the Group’s interests develop. Over three decades at the British Foreign Office, I learned in practice how technology solves security and defence problems. I look forward to helping Cobham make a still more dynamic contribution to the safety both of the UK and its close allies.”
